Gas Leak Forces Evacuations In Treasure Coast City
TEQUESTA (CBSMiami) – Hundreds of people have been evacuated from a city along the Treasure Coast of Florida.
The cause of a 30,000 liquid petroleum leak is still unknown according to CBS affiliate WPEC.
Police said the LP tank began to leak Thursday while workers were filling it up at 901 Old Dixie Highway, a quarter mile south of County Line Road in Tequesta.
Officials said it is extremely flammable and in a stationary tank next to rail road tracks at a distribution point.
Tequesta police called this a 'very serious situation'.
Officials have evacuated residents in Palm Beach and Martin Counties by going door to door and using a reverse 911 call.
Amerigas will help off load the remaining gas by burning it off. The public should be aware because a large orange glow will emit in the air from this.
