FWC Catching Square Grouper In The Atlantic
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It must be square grouper season in the Atlantic Ocean.
Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, along with other law enforcement agencies, have been searching for bales of marijuana that have been floating in the Atlantic.
The FWC didn't say exactly where they are searching but said approximately 100 pounds of marijuana, disguised as bags of brown sugar, have been found and recovered in the past couple of days.
The FWC and the U.S. Coast Guard is asking anyone on a boat who comes across any narcotics in the ocean to immediately call law enforcement authorities.
On October 17th, 6,500 pounds of pot was taken into custody by the Coast Guard when a 60-foot Jamaican-flagged fishing vessel was found adrift in the Caribbean. It was worth $6.2 million.
Two weeks prior to that, more than 400 pounds of marijuana washed ashore a Jupiter Beach wrapped in eight burlap sacks. It was worth more than $1 million.
