Future Of Orlando Roller Coaster Is Topsy-Turvy Over Height

ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) — It seems there can never be too many attractions in Orlando, Florida.
Developer Joshua Wallack was showered with praise last year when he announced plans to build a $500 million entertainment complex on Orlando's aging International Drive, complete with what would be the world's tallest roller coaster.
A year later that quest could be derailed because of heavy opposition from Universal Studios and other neighboring theme parks who are taking issue with its proposed 570-foot height.
The Wallacks say Universal and others are only lobbying against the project to stifle competition. Universal says it's simply trying to ensure the culture of the tourist corridor isn't adversely affected.
Last month, the Orange County's advisory planning and zoning commission denied Skyplex's request that its nearly 12 acres be rezoned.
Skyplex will appeal its case Dec. 1 to Orange County's Board of County Commissioners.
