Hallandale Police Chief Remembered
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) – Family, friends and co-workers gathered Tuesday to remember Hallandale Beach Police Chief Thomas Magill who passed away last Wednesday from natural causes.
A funeral mass was celebrated at Saint Matthew Catholic Church at 542 Blue Heron Drive in Hallandale Beach.
Chief Magill, who was 57-years old when he passed away, had served with the department for 35 years, starting as patrol officer.
Magill, who had served as the city's Chief of Police for the last seven years, is survived by his wife Patricia and their children Jennifer, Jessica, Timothy and Scott.
Magill's family is deeply rooted in the law enforcement profession. His grandfather, Walter Barlow, served as an officer in Atlantic City and his father William was a Miami Beach Police Officer.
Magill was the youngest of nine children, and followed the footsteps of two of his four brothers, who were also police officers. Charles was a North Miami Beach Police Officer and Daniel was a Hialeah Police Department Lieutenant. His s Timothy continues the family tradition and is a recent graduate of the BLE # 10-01 St. John River County Police Academy.
Magill's family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the Hallandale Beach Police Athletic League.
