Funeral Held For Woman Killed During Murder Suspect Chase
MIAMI (CBSMiami) –Family and friends came together to pay their respects to a woman who was killed when a murder suspect crashed into her car.
Maritza Medina, 48, died at the intersection of US 27 and Griffin Road as Antonio Feliu led cops on a high-speed chase.
The chase began in Miami-Dade County and ended in West Broward County.
Visitation services for Medina were held Saturday, September 21 from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn at 11655 SW 117 Avenue in Miami.
The funeral will be held Sunday, September 22, also at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn at 11 a.m. with the interment immediately following at 11:30 a.m.
Medina was an innocent victim of Antonio Feliu's actions. It is believed Feliu shot Vivian Gallego Martinez, 51, and her daughter Anabel Benitez, 28, inside their efficiency apartment in South Miami Heights. Martinez died at the scene and Benitez died at a hospital.
Feliu led police on a high speed chase after the murders and it came to an end when he crashed his SUV into Medina's Mercedes.
As police approached the Feliu's SUV with their guns drawn, they quickly retreated as shots were fired from inside the vehicle.
SWAT team members from Miami-Dade, BSO, Pembroke Pines and Davie moved in, surrounded the vehicle, looked in the windows and then opened the driver's side door. Inside, they found the body of Feliu.
Police said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
