Ft. Lauderdale Water Main Break Snarls Traffic
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - There's no good time for a water main break, but rush hour on a Friday is definitely among the worst. That's what city officials in Ft. Lauderdale were handed after a broken pipe closed part of Andrew Avenue Friday afternoon.
The westbound turn lane of Broward Boulevard to north Andrews Avenue was closed after the pipe broke, causing minor flooding and a hefty hole. One passing lane on westbound Broward Boulevard was also closed.
Fort Lauderdale Public Works placed barricades and signs in the work area to keep people away as they work to repair the leak.
While traffic is moving in the area, it's been slowed by the construction work and the leak, and city officials are suggesting commuters find another route.
City officials could not say when the leak would be repaired.
