FSU's Clint Trickett Released From Scholarship
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – The mystery surrounding who would replace E.J. Manuel as the starting quarterback of the Florida State Seminoles may have been solved Wednesday when Seminoles quarterback Clint Trickett was released from his scholarship.
Trickett was the team's most experienced quarterback having started two games as a redshirt freshman and serving as Manuel's primary backup in 2012. But Trickett may have seen the writing on the wall with the ascension of the highly-touted Jameis Winston.
Head coach Jimbo Fisher praised Trickett's passion and said he was a "great young man and ambassador for Florida State who will graduate in a few weeks….we wish him nothing but the best for him in his future endeavors."
Coming out of high school in Hueytown, Alabama, Winston was the top dual-threat quarterback in the country and the number one player in Alabama. He stands 6'4", weighs at least 200 pounds, and chose Florida State over Alabama and a host of other schools.
In Saturday's Garnet and Gold spring game, Winston completed 12 of 15 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns against the first-string defense for the Seminoles.
