FSU, UF Tuition Bill Headed To Gov. Scott
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – A bill that would allow Florida State University and the University of Florida raise tuition above the current 15 percent a year cap is on its way to Gov. Rick Scott's desk for his signature.
The Senate approved the measure Thursday.
The legislation is an outgrowth of House Speaker Dean Cannon's complaint that the state university system was mired in mediocrity and had suffered from political interference over the years.
Supporters of the bill contend that UF and FSU will be able to compete nationally and elevate their stature with the extra tuition money.
But it's unclear whether Scott will sign the bill into law. Scott has said he is opposed to letting universities raise tuition this year.
