FSU Schedule May Take Another Hit For 2013
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – The Florida State Seminoles may be feeling a sense of déjà vu over their 2013 football schedule.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, FSU athletic director Randy Spetman said the University of Nevada is considering buying their way out of a scheduled game in Doak Campbell Stadium in 2013.
If Nevada does indeed buy its way out of the game for $600,000; it will mark the second straight year an opponent of Florida State will have backed out of a game. It would also give FSU a second open date in the 2013 schedule.
West Virginia paid a large penalty to FSU to buy its way out of a home-and-home series of games that were supposed to start this year. FSU was hit with the buyout late and the only team it could afford to schedule was Division I-AA Savannah State.
What will happen with Florida State's schedule next year is in flux. Syracuse and Pittsburgh are scheduled to leave the Big East for the ACC in 2014. However, West Virginia was able to get out of the Big East by paying a large fine. It's unknown if Pitt and Syracuse would consider that route.
If Pitt & Syracuse were to join the ACC in 2013, it would mean the Seminoles would only have to have three non-conference games to fill out the schedule. If Pitt & Syracuse wait until 2014, FSU will have to fill four non-conference games.
One of those spots is reserved for the annual battle against the University of Florida.
