FSU Picked To Win ACC Title
PINEHURST, N.C. (CBSMiami.com) – When the college football world last saw Jimbo Fisher's Florida State Seminoles, they were leaving the Chick-Fil-A Bowl with a victory over South Carolina. The media covering the ACC expect even more this year.
FSU and Virginia Tech are the preseason picks to win the Atlantic and Coastal divisions respectively. The Seminoles were also predicted to be the new ACC champion when the dust settles before bowl season begins.
Florida State was selected first overall on 50 ballots. Virginia Tech got 18 first-place votes. FSU was voted first in the Atlantic division on 65 ballots, while Virginia Tech was chosen first on 66 ballots.
The University of Miami was predicted to finish second in the Coastal Division, with just 4 votes picking the Hurricanes to win the ACC Coastal Dvision.
When it comes to who will be the player of the year in the ACC, Montel Harris was the selection. He was followed by FSU quarterback E.J. Manuel and Luke Kuechly of Boston College. Miami placed two on the player of the year list, Lamar Miller and Sean Spence.
FSU opens against Louisiana-Monroe and Charleston Southern before facing the expected number one team in the nation, the Oklahoma Sooners.
Miami opens the season at Maryland before returning home for two tough non-conference games against Ohio State and Kansas State.
