FSU Football Schedule Still Not Finished
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami) – At the current rate, West Virginia University may have to turn into a bank to pay off its college football bills.
A few weeks ago, WVU paid Florida State University $500,000 to back out of a home-and-home series against the Seminoles. Then last week, WVU paid millions of dollars to get out of the Big East Conference and into the Big XII Conference.
For Florida State, WVU's money may end up costing the school far more than the $500,000 payment.
FSU was left with a scheduling hole without an opponent to fill it at this late date. FSU doesn't want to lose its seventh home game of the season, but it could cost the school an additional $1 million to fill that spot, according to ESPN.com.
The Seminoles have called multiple schools about a possible matchup including the Oklahoma Sooners, who just finished a two-game, two-year series with the Noles. Oklahoma is not likely to take FSU up on the offer, but getting another school is proving difficult.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Noles have called roughly 31 Football Subdivision Schools to find a new opponent. Among those contacted were: Boise State, Texas A&M, Syracuse, Rutgers, Wyoming, Arkansas, and Pittsburgh.
FSU's schedule hasn't been released yet, nor has any other ACC schools. The ACC said its schedules were being held up by "unusual circumstances beyond the control of the ACC." Those situations included West Virginia's move to the Big XII; the Big East hasn't finished adding schools or a schedule; and FSU still can't fill its non-conference schedule among other problems.
