Fresh Out Of Jail For Armed Carjacking, Man Charged With Same Crime
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — A 26-year-old armed carjacking suspect is back behind bars, accused of the same crime a second time, according to Fort Lauderdale Police.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Lawrence Rice, of North Lauderdale, was arrested Friday following a brief late-night foot chase, police said.
As the victims pulled into a parking space, they started to get out of the car when a gunman approached them.
He ordered two people out of the vehicle and onto the ground. One victim suffered serious facial injuries, according to the police report.
The suspect sped off in the victim's vehicle but crashed in the 100 block of South Birch Road.
An officer witnessed the collision and saw the suspect running from the scene. Officers then chased and caught the suspect. He was still armed with a handgun, the report stated.
Rice was on pre-trial release for a previous armed carjacking incident. Now he's facing federal charges that include carjacking and possession of a firearm by a felon, police said.
He is scheduled to appear at the Federal Courthouse, in Fort Lauderdale, on Monday.
