Fire On Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship; One Crew Member Burned

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A scare for thousands of passengers on board a cruise ship which caught fire as it was sailing into a port in Jamaica.
The fire on board the Freedom of the Seas, a nine-year-old ship, started in a mechanical space as the ship was pulling into Falmouth, Jamaica, according to Royal Caribbean International.
Crew members of the Freedom of the Seas put out the fire. Royal Caribbean said no passengers were injured, but did say, via Twitter, that one crew member was treated for a first degree burn.
The fire was put out by the ship's fire suppression system.
All of the guests were sent to evacuation stations as a precaution.
Many passengers took to social media with photos of the fire, as well as pictures of passengers with life vests, seemingly waiting for the evacuation to end.
Passengers were eventually able to get off the ship but their time on the island was a little shorter because of the fire.
The Freedom of the Seas is currently on a seven-night sailing that departed from Cape Canaveral Sunday.
