Free Breakfast For Students On First Day Of FCAT's
MIAMI (CBS4) -- Nearly two million South Florida students will pick up their pencils starting Monday and take the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, otherwise known as the FCAT. But before the test, it's important to give your children a healthy, well-balanced breakfast and McDonald's has decided to help out.
For the second year in a row, participating McDonald's restaurants in Florida will serve a free breakfast to students taking the FCAT on Monday, April 11th. Breakfast consists of an Egg McMuffin, bag of Apple Dippers and a milk or small orange juice. This offer is for students under 15 years old and in grades 3 to 11. The free breakfast will be served from 6:00 - 8:30 a.m. Kids must be accompanied by a parent. Child must be present to receive offer.
This is the second year for this program which is designed to ensure children start off their test day with a nutritious meal.
"Whether students eat at home, at their school or at McDonald's, it's important to have a well-balanced breakfast every day," said Dr. Cindy Goody, a registered and licensed dietitian. "For children and adults, a balanced breakfast can contribute many important nutrients to help meet daily nutritional needs as well as provide energy to start the day."
If parents can't bring their children to McDonald's, many schools serve free breakfast the morning of the FCATs. Parents can check with their child's school to see if a free breakfast is offered.
