Free Agent Jeremy Shockey Reportedly Interested In Joining The Fins
MIAMI (CBS4) - A pro football player no stranger to the Magic City may be coming home.
CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald is reporting that Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey is very interested in joining the Miami Dolphins in the upcoming 2011-12 season.
Shockey, who owns a home in Miami, declined to say when, or if, he would be joining the team.
"It would be a dream to play for the Dolphins," Shockey told the Miami Herald. "They've got great coaches – Tony Sparano and (tight ends coach) Dan Campbell. I played with Dan on the Giants. And they've got a bunch of good guys on that team.
Shockey was released this week by the New Orleans Saints, where he has played since being traded by the Giants in 2008.
The veteran tight end's career has been marred in injuries, but passed a physical with Dolphins trainers on Thursday. If a deal can be hammered out, Shockey could join the team as soon as March 4.
Shockey rose to fame as a stand out tight end for the Miami Hurricanes from 1999-2002. In 2002 he was drafted 14th in the first round by the New York Giants.
The Fins, however, seem confident in their current tight end Anthony Fasano. Dolphins management will now have to decide if the two can co-exist.
Shockey was set to make $4.2 million with the Saints before he was released.
"It'd be an honor to play here. But we'll see," said Shockey. "This is unchartered water for me."
