Fort Lauderdale Woman Found Shot To Death Inside Her Car
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Fort Lauderdale Police are trying to solve the murder of a 22-year-old woman who was shot dead outside her home while she sat in her car.
The family and friends of Kimone Mattis are desperate for answers about her murder. They cannot imagine who would murder a 22-year-old woman with a 15-month-old child.
"How could you do this to my child?" Pamela Walker said. "What kind of heart do you have to kill a person?"
Mattis' father, Lester, is shocked that someone shot and killed her inside her car around 11:45 Wednesday night outside her home at 2921 NW 24 Street. He hopes that someone who saw or heard something will break their silence.
"It ripped me to pieces," he said. "Somebody in the neighborhood see something. Somebody hear something. Please, please come forward and give information."
Mattis worked at a nearby Jamaican restaurant. Her boss, Rudolph Robinson, said she left work early Wednesday afternoon because of a headache. Robinson said Mattis gave him a ride home and he never imagined that he'd never see her again.
"How could somebody knock out a person like that with a baby?," Robinson said.
Her family described Kimone as happy, fun-loving and devoted to her daughter Sky—a child who will grow up without her mom.
"That's not fair to her," said Jennifer Beckford, the child's godmother. "Whoever did it not only cheated her on a life she cheated her child on growing up and having her mother with her and teaching her things only a mother can teach her."
All the questions, all the pain leave this heartbroken mother to make a plea to her daughter's killer.
"Whoever kill my child come forward," she said. "Turn yourself in."
