Former UM Assistant In Shapiro Scandal Resigns Job
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Nevin Shapiro scandal at the University of Miami has reached to the hills of Kentucky. Western Kentucky University announced Thursday that Jake Morton has resigned as the school's director of basketball operations.
Morton was an assistant coach at the University of Miami during the period Shapiro alleged to the NCAA that he gave money to players and coaches among other violations.
In the NCAA's notice of allegations released earlier in 2013, the collegiate governing body accused Morton of accepting at least $6,000 in additional income from Shapiro between October 2007 and October 2008.
Western Kentucky hired Morton as an assistant coach in June 2011. He took the job of director of basketball operations following the 2011-2012 season. The school said Morton resigned "to pursue coaching opportunities."
