Former Treasure Coast Student Among SEALs Killed In Attack
STUART (CBSMiami) - Aaron Vaughn wanted to serve his country after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and it was that service that cost the former Martin County High student his life Saturday, one of 38 killed when a US helicopter was brought down in Afghanistan by Taliban fire. He was 31 years old.
Vaughn was a member of the elite Seal Team 6, the same unit that went into a Pakistani compound to take Osama Bin Laden. Vaughn was not part of that mission, but he was part of a 22 person Seal unit sent into to rescue an Army Ranger union that encounter problems.
The team had been rescued, and was leaving the area, when the Taliban fire brought the helicopter down. 30 Americans were killed when the craft went down.

Vaughn, who leaves behind a wife and 2 children, spent part of his high school years in Stuart, and attended Martin County Community College, where he earned an associate degree.
After the 9/11 attacks, family members said he joined the Navy, and immediately put in for Seal training.
While his mother lives in Stuart, most of his family lives in Tennessee, and he had been based most recently in Virginia.
