Former Porn Star Running For Same School Board He's Suing

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Palm Beach County math tutor could be serving on the county's school board at the same time he's suing them.

David Mech, who is a former porn star known as "Dave Pounder," is running for the board's District 3 seat along with John Hartman against incumbent Karen Brill. The election will be held August 26th.

Mech also has a discrimination suit filed against the board in district federal court.

"Lawsuits like mine happen because of poor decision-making and that's why I'm running for the board," said Mech.

Mech filed a discrimination suit after the board ordered that signs advertising his Happy/Fun Math Tutor service be taken down at several schools. The board ordered the signs removed after they learned that he was former porn actor and ran an adult film business. They said that adult entertainment was not a compatible partner.

"i dont know why any rational school board would want to prevent a well-educated, non-violent strong math tutor access to their population," said Mech.

Mech added that "the current school board, I believe, is deficient in areas related to technology, innovation, equality sex education and secular values."

Mech said what happened to him and his suit against the board were factors in his decision to run.

"I'm trying to make data driven decisions that are beneficial to furthering education of Palm Beach County schools," said Mech.

Mech's federal case is set for trial in November.
