Former Howard Johnson Demolished, Makes Way For High-Rise

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) --  Crews demolished the former beachfront Howard Johnson hotel in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday morning.

The demolition took place at 700 North Atlantic Boulevard just after 8:00 a.m. Construction crews were on-site for the tear down along with  developers.

This makes way for a residential luxury high-rise condominium called Paramount Fort Lauderdale Beach, making it the first tower in the surrounding area to not include a hotel component.

The Paramount Fort Lauderdale Beach will be an 18-story, condominium tower with 95 residences being sold for a  starting price of $1 million.
