Former Gator Star DT Signs With Vikings
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (CBSMiami/AP) - Former University of Florida standout defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd has signed his rookie contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Floyd was selected 23rd by the Vikings in April's NFL Draft. He became the highest selected defensive tackle by the Vikings since the team selected Kevin Williams out of Oklahoma State in 2003.
The Vikings hope Floyd, who was an All-SEC player at UF, can team with and eventually take over for Williams in the middle of the team's defense.
Last year, Floyd had 13 tackles for loss, 29 overall tackles, and three sacks. He also had six quarterback hurries, forced one fumble, and blocked two kicks.
Minnesota has yet to sign its other two first-round draft picks, wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and cornerback Xavier Rhodes.
