Former FSU Star Takes Over For Vikings
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (CBSMiami.com) – Former Florida State Seminoles quarterback Christian Ponder has overtaken Donovan McNabb and will take over as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings this week.
Ponder came into last Sunday's game in the second half and went 9 of 17 for 99 yards and didn't turn the ball over.
For the Vikings, the move serves two purposes. First, the team needs an offensive spark of some sort to get the team back on the winning track. Minnesota is currently 1-5 on the season and in last place in the NFC North.
The other reason is the Vikings need to know exactly what they have in Ponder. If Ponder comes in and can perform well enough, the Vikings have their quarterback of the future.
But, with the Vikings at 1-5, if Ponder comes in and struggles, the Vikes may look at next year's draft class to pick up a new quarterback.
Ponder was a standout quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles who also completed his degree in two years.
