Former Cane Named In Casino Investment
DOTHAN, Ala. (CBSMiami.com) – Former Miami Hurricane, and current Washington Redskin, Santana Moss is among a group of players that have been implicated in a failed casino in Alabama.
Moss, Terrell Owens, Santonio Holmes, and other players reportedly invested some $20 million in the Country Crossing casino. Two other players were mentioned in a Yahoo! Sports report about the situation, Gerard Warren and Adalius Thomas.
The NFL confirmed that the league is now investigating the issue. NFL rules state that all employees are banned from any involvement with a gambling operation. Players who violate the rule could face fines or suspensions and have to give up their investment.
The casino became embroiled in a massive scandal that has seen the owner of the casino, Ronnie Gilley, and two of his lobbyists plead guilty to offering legislators millions in bribes.
Under current Alabama law, casino gambling is illegal except on Native American grounds. Alabama has even banned a lottery in the state for decades due to it being related to gambling.
