Former Bank Employee Faces Fraud Charges
MIAMI BEACH – (CBSMiami.com) – A 27-year-old former Miami Beach bank employee is accused of fraudulently withdrawing thousands of dollars from a bank customer's account.
Miryanis Napoles, of Hialeah, faced a bond court judge Friday who ordered her held on $27,500 bond.
Police say Napoles applied for a Chase Freedom Visa credit card under the name of a 91-year-old customer while she worked as a personal banker at Chase Bank, 1801 Alton Rd. in November of 2011. She fraudulently charged $839.70 to the customer's card, police said.
In addition, Napoles allegedly withdrew $3,000 from the same customer's bank account.
When police questioned Napoles, she said she had opened the credit card for a friend.
The bank fired Napoles in December and that's when police began investigating the fraudulent transactions.
Now, Napoles faces several charges including exploitation of the elderly, theft, credit card fraud and scheme to defraud.
