Foreclosure King's Plantation Law Firm To Close
PLANTATION (CBS4) - A Plantation law firm being investigated by the Florida Attorney General's Office for allegedly 'rubber stamping' thousands of foreclosure documents will reportedly close at the end of the month.
In a Securities and Exchange Commission disclosure released Monday a DJSP Enterprises, a firm which handled the paperwork for the Law Offices of 'foreclosure king' David J. Stern, said the firmed planned to close its doors on March 31st, according to The Sun-Sentinel.
At their peak, Stern's law firm and DJSP employed more than 12-thousand people and handled roughly 20 percent of all repossession cases in the state. Last August, the state's AG office announced their investigation into the way the firm handled the foreclosure paperwork and Stern's major clients, including Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, began pulling their cases.
Cheryl Samons, who once worked as an officer manager at Stern's firm, testified during a deposition that she signed off on hundreds of foreclosure documents without ever reviewing their contents or checking for accuracy.
Former assistant Kelly Scott testified that they would sometimes handle up to a thousand documents a day and paralegals were authorized to forge Samons signature so they could get through them.
