Worst Of Maria Will Miss Leeward Islands
MIAMI (CBS4) – Tropical Storm Maria slipped north of the Leeward islands as it continues to move West.
At 5 p.m.. the center of the system was located about 50 miles ESE of St. Martin as it moved to the northwest at 14 miles per hour.
Maximum sustained winds remained steady at 45 mph, a slight strengthening. Forecasters had expected the storm to move over the Leeward islands, but the current track has it moving north, and sparing the islands the worst of the wind and rain.
Little change bin strength is expected over the next 48 hours.
The NHC said residents in the Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos, and the southeastern Bahamas should be monitoring the progress of Maria closely.
