Forbes: Arison & Ross Worth Combined $9.4 Billion
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Forbes Magazine has released its annual list of the nation's richest people and two South Florida sports owners made the top 100 Richest Americans.
Miami Heat owner Micky Arison checked in at number 68 on the list with an estimated worth of $5 billion thanks to Carnival Cruise Lines. Needless to say, Arison likely won't be worrying about any luxury taxes coming in the next few years from the NBA.
Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was number 83 on the list at $4.4 billion. Ross was listed as the second-richest owner in the NFL, which could make his pleas for public money to help fund part of the upgrades to Sun Life Stadium a little uncomfortable.
Ross and the Dolphins have pitched a massive upgrade to Sun Life to help land Super Bowls and other major events. The modernization plan for Sun Life will total more than $400 million and Ross has pledged to pay approximately half of the costs with the rest coming from tax dollars.
Other South Floridians in the top 100 of the Forbes List of Richest Americans included: Dirk Ziff, at a worth of $4.3 billion and William Koch at $4 billion.
Overall, the richest five people in America listed by Forbes were: 1. Bill Gates, $66 Billion; 2. Warren Buffett, $46 Billion; 3. Larry Ellison, $41 Billion; 4. Charles and David Koch, $31 Billion.
The richest person in the world is Mexican Carlos Slim Helu with an estimated value of $73 Billion.
