Flu Season Is Upon Us
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Break out your antibacterial, flu season is here.
Influenza or flu-like illness levels are increasing nationwide especially in the South East region, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The Florida Department of Health says they have received reports of severe influenza illness including hospitalizations some requiring care in the ICU, among pregnant women.
According to the department, none of those women had received the influenza vaccine for the 2013-2014 year.
In Florida, the most common flu viruses detected at the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories (BPHL) in recent weeks has been influenza A or the 2009 H1N1.
No pediatric deaths have been reported.
