Florida's Sales Tax Holiday Could Return
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) -- Florida's sales-tax holiday could return to a mall near you in August.
The House Finance and Taxation Committee on Thursday approved a bill (HB 737) that would schedule the tax-free shopping period from Aug. 10 through Aug. 12.
Like in past years, the bill would allow shoppers to avoid paying sales taxes on items such as clothes, bags and school supplies.
The bill originally called for also holding a tax holiday from Aug. 17 through Aug. 19 but sponsor Elizabeth Porter, R-Lake City, offered an amendment that limited it to one weekend because of the projected lost tax revenues for the state.
A similar bill (SB 982) is pending in the Senate.
