Florida To Join Multi-State Mega Millions Lottery
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – Florida residents who like to drop of a couple of bucks each week in hopes of hitting it big in the Florida Lotto or multi-state Powerball will soon have a new game to wager on.
State lottery officials have announced that Florida will join 42 other states in the Mega Millions lottery. Tickets for the Mega Millions game will go on sale May 15th.
Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell said that retailers and lottery players have been asking the state to join Mega Millions for years.
Lottery officials contend that adding Mega Millions will generate additional money for the state even though in the past there have been fears that adding additional games would erode sales of existing games.
Last summer the Florida Lottery wrapped up the most financially successful year in its history.
