Florida State Attorney Joins Human Trafficking Council

MIAMI (AP) — Miami State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle has been appointed to the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking.

Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Fernandez Rundle to the newly created council, which is coordinating efforts to fight sex trafficking and help victims heal and return to the community. Her appointment was announced Friday.

The Miami-Dade state attorney's office human trafficking unit has been a leader in sex trafficking prosecutions, filing 236 criminal cases in recent years. The office has more than 106 open investigations and dedicates two prosecutors and an investigator full-time to sex trafficking cases.

Fernandez Rundle says Miami's efforts could become a model for the state and the country.
