Florida Puts 6 Players On All-SEC 1st Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (CBSMiami) – The University of Florida will be representing the Southeastern Conference in the Sugar Bowl this year and was well represented on the All-SEC team released Monday.
A total of six Gators players were given first-team All-SEC honors in 2012. The list included: tight end Jordan Reed; running back Mike Gillislee, kicker Caleb Sturgis; defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd; safety Matt Elam; and punter Kyle Christy.
On the offensive side for the first team All-SEC team, the only unanimous selection was the quarterback affectionately known as "Johnny Football," Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M. Manziel is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and should win if voters don't hold the fact he's a freshman against him.
Alabama put two players on the offensive line along with a linebacker (C.J. Mosley) and cornerback (unanimous selection Dee Milliner).
The writers were unanimous in their selection of offensive player of the year, choosing Manziel, who also captured freshman of the year honors. Defensive player of the year went to Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones and coach of the year was given to Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin.
