Florida Man Gets 28 Months In Stolen Meds Case

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A Florida man was sentenced to 28 months in prison for his role in a prescription medication theft case. The drugs were later sold in New Jersey.
A federal judge in Newark sentenced Martin Lopez of Miami on Tuesday. The 47-year-old Lopez had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess stolen prescription medicine.
The U.S. attorney's office says the shipment of prescription respiratory medicine was stolen from a tractor trailer in December 2009 on its way to Pennsylvania from its manufacturer in Texas. Lopez admitted he arranged to have the medicine delivered to a buyer in North Bergen.
Lopez and others split $64,000 in cash.
The wholesale value of the medicine was about $485,000.
One of Lopez's coconspirators was sentenced last December to 80 months in prison.
