Florida Man Dies During Keys Dive Trip
KEY WEST (CBSMiami) – A deadly day on the water off Key West when a scuba diver collapsed after surfacing from a dive.
On their second dive of the day, 65-year old Ronald Kennedy and his 29-year old son Graham had been diving in about 25 feet of water for about 25 minutes. They completed their dive just after 3 p.m. and were hanging on to the tow line, removing their dive gear when Kennedy suddenly slumped over and stopped breathing. His son yelled for assistance from others on the dive boat "Phoenix".
They got Kennedy back on the boat and CPR was performed as it returned to shore. The Coast Guard was notified and met the vessel, bringing the body into the Coast Guard station in Key West.
Kennedy was transported to Lower Keys Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death.
