Florida Man Claims Galaxy Note 7 Exploded, Destroyed Vehicle

ST. PETERSBURG (CBSMiami) -- More trouble for Samsung in the wake of its Galaxy Note 7 recall due to battery explosions. Now, a Florida man claims his phone exploded and set his Jeep on fire.
According to a report from FOX 13 News, Nathan Dornacher and his wife, from St. Petersburg, had just returned home from a yard sale with their daughter over Labor Day weekend. Dornacher said he left the phone in the Jeep Cherokee to move some furniture and when he returned, his jeep was in a ball of flames.
Photos from Facebook show the entire car enveloped in flames before the St. Petersburg fire department extinguished the fire.
Dornacher said in a Facebook post that his Note 7 was charging in the car at the time of the explosion.
Photos afterwards show the destroyed phone.
Samsung has since told FOX 13 News it is "aware of the incident" and "working with Mr. Dornacher to investigate his case."
In addition, "Consumer safety is Samsung's highest priority," the spokesperson said. "With regard to the Galaxy Note7, we are asking owners to take advantage of the Product Exchange Program announced on Friday of last week. The program offers Note 7 owners the opportunity to exchange the phone for a new one."
All this took place just days after Samsung issued a worldwide recall for the new smartphone despite the fact that Samsung claims just 24 in every 1 million units is at risk of exploding.
