MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police in the Keys arrested a 30-year-old man Sunday for entering an elderly man's sailboat, refusing to leave, and then falling asleep on the victim's couch.
The victim, 93, told Deputy Kendall Baily he was asleep on his live-aboard sailboat when, around 4 AM, he heard Brandon Funkhouser enter his sailboat docked at the City Marina in Marathon.
The victim, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office, told Funkhouser to leave but instead he sat down, went through his belongings and then went to sleep.
The victim went to a neighbor's boat and asked the neighbor to call the Sheriff's Office for help. When deputies arrived Funkhouser was asleep on the couch inside the sailboat with a gift bag on his head.
Deputies, at first, were unable to wake him, but he finally woke up and was escorted off the vessel.
Funkhouser was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling. He was also charged with criminal mischief because he damaged the entrance to the sailboat.
