Florida Houses OK's Abortion Bill
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – Women in Florida may soon face tighter abortion restrictions.
The Florida House passed a bill Thursday that would require women seeking abortions to wait 24 hours before going through with the procedure.
Other provisions on the bill would mandate that abortion doctors get continuing education in ethics. The bill would also limit ownership of new abortion clinics to doctors who have received abortion training in their residency. The bill would expand prohibited abortions, giving doctors the authority to deny an abortion.
Abortions are currently prohibited during the third-trimester.
The bill is in transition to the Senate it will be discussed and later voted on.
The House passed a similar bill in 2011 but it died in the Senate.
