Florida House Of Representatives Welcomes New Majority Leader
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) — Florida's House of Representatives welcomed Rep. Steve Precourt, an Orlando Republican, as the Florida House's new majority leader.
Incoming Speaker Will Weatherford on Wednesday announced his choice of Precourt to replace Rep. Chris Dorworth, who was defeated at the polls.
Weatherford also named Rep. Dana Young, a Tampa Republican and lawyer, to serve as deputy majority leader. Weatherford, a Wesley Chapel Republican, will become speaker during a one-day legislative reorganization session on Nov. 20.
Dorworth narrowly lost to Democrat Mike Clelland, a lawyer and retired firefighter, in the Nov. 6 election. Both are from Lake Mary in central Florida. A businessman and transportation engineer, Precourt chaired the House Finance and Tax Committee for the past two years.
