Florida Gas Prices See Small Drop, Flooding Eyed
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Average gas prices dropped by about a penny a gallon across the state of Florida, according to the AAA, but prices are still high and there is no indication of a major drop any time soon.
The AAA Weekly gas price update found average prices for regular unleaded fuel at $3.91 a gallon, down a penny from last week's $3.92 a gallon. Nationally, prices remained unchanged at an average $3.96 a gallon.
In South Florida, Miamigasprices.com said prices were up about a penny from $3.95 a gallon last week, to $3.96 a gallon Sunday. Gas prices on that site are reported by users. Prices have been reported as low as $3.73 a gallon, mostly in the Homestead area and Southwest Miami-Dade, almost 20 cents a gallon cheaper that the average Miami-area price.
Concern about the effect of Mississippi River flooding is being reflected in gas prices remaining high.
"Although the Morganza spillway was opened to shift the flood water from oil refineries, many oil wells will be affected and this could push oil prices higher this week," said Jessica Brady, spokesperson, AAA Auto Club South. "Retail gas prices still remain relatively unchanged from last week, however with two concurrent weeks of oil trading below $100, consumers should start to see gas prices drop—albeit slow and steady."
