Florida Continues Adding Jobs, Mainly In Service Sector
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - Florida continued to add jobs in the month of September, though it's not known how many of those jobs are part-time, full-time, or provide benefits.
According to payroll provider ADP, the state added 16,640 private sector jobs during the month of September. ADP's survey is separate from the monthly unemployment report released by government agencies.
Overall, ADP said Florida's overall job growth numbers were among the highest in the nation behind Texas. But, the survey also showed that most of the growth was in service jobs.
Last month, ADP reported the state gained more than 13,000 jobs; but state officials reported that the state actually lost more than 5,000 jobs that month.
Florida's unemployment rate in August was 7 percent.
Florida is supposed to report new unemployment numbers next week. But the state will not be able to release the numbers if the federal government shutdown continues.
