Broward Commission Approves Airport Settlement
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami.com) – Broward County commissioners have taken the final step in putting the legal issue over a runway expansion project at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to bed.
Commissioners unanimously approved a settlement agreement which pays homeowners affected by the increased noise levels from a new east-west runway.
County aviation director Kent George said Tuesday's approval by the commission is unprecedented.
The city of Dania Beach has previously voted to approve the lawsuit settlement which will impact around 850 homeowners.
The deal will give cash to homeowners who want to further sound-proof their home or help them sell the homes if they so desire.
The final step for the $790 runway project will be getting approval from the Federal Aviation Administration.
