Flights Canceled Due To Storm Expected To Resume By Thursday
MIAMI (CBS Miami) – Tropical Storm Chantal is now a tropical wave, but it left much of the Caribbean drenched, Wednesday, leading to flights being canceled for people heading to Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Miami International Airport spokesperson Marc Henderson said 21 flights were canceled. Most of the flights, 12, were arrivals, nine were departures.
The airlines impacted were American Airlines and GOL Transportes Aereos. Cities affected were Port-A-Prince, Haiti; Santa Domingo, Punta Cana, La Romana and Santiago, all in the Dominican Republic
The flights were stopped because winds were greater than 55 mph. The control tower closes and grounds all flights at that point.
Most flights are expected to resume by Thursday.
Travelers are advised to check with their airlines.
