FLFD: Recent Rise In Trapped Animals Leads To Rescues

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Fire rescue officials have a little advice before you start your car these days and that is to tap the hood.

The reason is a recent rise in calls for animals trapped within vehicles.

The latest rescue took place Thursday morning at 2724 N Andrews Avenue in front of Las Colinas restaurant where two kittens were within a car's engine area.

One of the kittens was trapped and required firefighters' help to free it from the undercarriage of the car.

The rescue had a happy ending.  Both kittens were reunited with their owner.

Firefighters said by tapping the hood of a car before starting the engine, it gives the animals a chance to get out or a chance to hear if one may be trapped and needs helped.
