Fla. Releases Rankings Of All Schools
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami) – The state of Florida has released its ranking for the 2010-2011 school year and South Florida schools were at the top and bottom of the school rankings.
The rankings are based on the number of school grade points each received in 2010-2011.
A point is given for each percent of students in the school who were enrolled for the full year who score on grade level or higher on the FCAT and make annual learning gains.
According to the Florida Department of Education school rankings, Archimedean Middle Conservatory and George Washington Carver Middle School in Miami-Dade County were the top two middle schools in the state.
At the high school level, Mast Academy in Miami-Dade County finished the year ranked as the second-best high school in the Sunshine State, just behind Collegiate High School at NW Florida State College.
Elementary school rankings had Imagine Charter School at Weston and Florida Intercultural Academy in Broward County in the top-five. Miami-Dade County's Ethel Koger Beckham Elementary was also in the top 10.
On the other end of the spectrum, Broward Community Charter Middle School was ranked dead last out of 583 schools in the state.
Miami-Dade also placed Carol City Middle School and North Dade Middle School in the bottom 10 in the state.
The lowest ranking South Florida high school was Boyd H. Anderson High School in Broward County, which ranked 399th out of 404 schools.
Homestead Senior High School was the lowest ranking high school in Miami-Dade County.
Lawrence Academy Elementary Charter School in Miami-Dade County and Imagine Charter in North Lauderdale in Broward County were the lowest ranking elementary schools in the state.
