Fla. Poll: Romney Pulls Back Ahead Of Gingrich
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It wouldn't be primary season if Florida polls weren't all over the place just a week before the Florida primary.
Earlier Wednesday, Quinnipiac University released a poll that found Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney are in a statistical tie.
But, Wednesday afternoon, a new poll from the American Research Group found that Romney is actually pulling ahead.
According to the ARG poll, Romney was favored by 41 percent of likely voters in the Sunshine State; compared to Gingrich's 34 percent support from likely voters.
Romney led in the Quinnipiac poll by two points, but that was well within the margin of error for the poll.
The growing support for Romney in the ARG poll is from voters who were surveyed after Monday's debate between the remaining GOP candidates.
The crowd was told not to cheer, as is customary with debates, and Gingrich couldn't feed off the crowd like he did in South Carolina.
After the debate, Gingrich railed against NBC News for having the no cheering rule and said he wouldn't allow that to happen again.
The ARG poll found that 17 percent of Republican primary voters had already voted by absentee ballots and that Romney led with that group of voters 51-39 over Gingrich.
