Fla. House Holds Silent Observance For Trayvon Martin
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – Members of the Florida House, meeting in a special session in Tallahassee to work on redistricting, observed a minute of silence on Tuesday for Trayvon Martin.
"This unfortunate incident should remind us that we should always love our children," said Rep. Dwayne Taylor, D-Daytona Beach, who requested the observance.
Rep. Dwight Bullard, a Miami Democrat, wore a hooded shirt similar to the hoodie that Martin had on when he was shot.
The 17-year-old was shot to death in Sanford by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, who said he acted in self-defense.
The shooting has generated protests demanding that Zimmerman be arrested and calls to repeal Florida's Stand Your Ground self-defense law.
