Fla. Democrats Can't Attend Own Fundraiser
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Florida Democratic Party is about to answer the question what happens when you throw a "legislative appreciation party" and no legislators show up.
Democrats from the Florida House and Senate are expected to bypass the Tuesday event after lawyers for both chambers said they could violate legislative rules if they physically showed up at the event.
Legislative rules currently ban legislators from asking for campaign contributions during the legislative session.
So, Democrats would be in violation if they attended the minimum $500 donation soirée.
The flyer advertising the event said that legislators were not involved in asking for the money, but lawmakers are likely to stay away from the event.
Democratic leaders said the party will go on as planned.
