Fla. Congressional Restricting Map Goes To Court
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — A circuit judge in Tallahassee will hold a hearing Wednesday on a challenge to the Legislature's congressional redistricting plan.
Circuit Judge Terry Lewis will consider a request to invalidate the map, which was drawn by the Republican-led Legislature.
The 27-seat map is being challenged by the League of Women Voters and other groups, which contend it wasn't drawn following a new constitutional requirement that prevents favoring incumbents.
The hearing begins Wednesday and may continue into Thursday if necessary.
The Florida Supreme Court on Friday will hear a similar challenge to the Legislature's revised Senate map. The justices kicked back lawmakers' initial plan because it violated the standards but approved their state House map.
