Man Accused In One Day Bank Robbing Spree Arrested
NORTH MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The economy may be tough, but there must have been something in the air Thursday because four banks were robbed in a span of just five hours.
Thursday night, the FBI said they have the man responsible for three of them.
Reginald Watkins, 53, was taken into custody at 7:45 p.m. Watkins was arrested by members of the Miami-Dade Police Department and members of the South Florida Violent Crime/Fugitive Task Force.
The first robbery took place at around 9:00 a.m. at the Bank of America, located at 13450 West Dixie Highway, in North Miami. A surveillance camera captured an image of the man wearing a red, long sleeved polo, a black beanie and sunglasses.
The FBI said the robber entered the bank and demanded money from a bank teller. It is unknown whether or not money was taken.
Then around 10:15 a.m., the man walked into a TD Bank at 9005 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami Shores and demanded that a bank employee give him money. This time around, surveillance cameras showed the man wearing a white, short-sleeved polo shirt, dark gray pants and sunglasses.
In the second heist, according to the FBI, the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
There were customers in the banks when both robberies occurred, but no one was hurt.
Hours later, another bank robbery occurred at a Bank of America in Hialeah. The FBI is trying to determine if any cash was taken.
The FBI plans to charge Watkins with all three robberies.
A fourth robbery took place at the Wells Fargo at 15759 Pines Blvd., Pembroke Pines, FL, at 11:40 a.m. That robbery is believed to be unrelated and the FBI is still looking for the robber. In that case, the money stolen from the bank flew onto the roads of I-75 from the backpack of the robber who was riding a motorcycle.
