FIU Students Arrested After Demonstration On Campus
WEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) - Seven Florida International University students were arrested Thursday night after police say they refused to disperse at an unsanctioned rally on campus.
Witnesses told CBS4 News that students had gathered on school grounds to hold an "Occupy FIU" music festival as a show of solidarity for Haiti earthquake survivors.
During the festival, witnesses say police told the group to relocate to another location on campus. Some sort of altercation reportedly occurred, and seven students were arrested.
A spokesperson for FIU said the students did not have a permit to hold the festival on the campus.
Members of "Occupy FIU" say they will hold a candlelight vigil at the police station in support of those arrested.
